Class Offerings
I have been teaching art and writing classes for over 15 years! I help students learn layout, lighting, color, and application of soft pastels, and other art materials. My writing classes are geared toward the art of picture book writing and draft layouts.
I am available during the day, evening, and Saturdays. I can accommodate homeschooling groups, children, teens, and adults. My art classes usually run for two hours (less for younger children).

I recommend classes be 1.5 hours for children under 12.

Pet Portraits
-soft pastels
Best for teens and adults, this class focuses on rendering students' furry friend in soft pastels. They will learn how to layout their pet proportions, how to show lighting, fur direction, and color choices. A great introduction to animal portraiture!
Come prepared with a clear, color photo of your furry friend.
Stuffie or Toy Still Life
-soft pastels
Great for any age, this versatile class offers different still life subject matter depending on your needs and desire. Students can bring their favorite stuffed animal, or use provided items such as plants, toys, basic shapes, and even the traditional (plastic) fruit. This class teaches light, color, layout, and basic perspective.
Landscapes
-soft pastels
This Landscape class is great for any age and can be tailored to meet the skill level of the student(s). Using provided landscape scenes, students will learn atmospheric perspective, color choice, and soft pastel application. Landscape images are provided for students to use!
Writing Workshop
Creating A Picture Book Draft
In this interactive class, students will choose writing prompts, write a short story, outline their story, and create a book "dummy" draft. They will learn more about story arcs, picture book page turns, and how picture books use both images and text to work to gether to tell a story.
Spooky Landscsape
-soft pastels or any medium
For elementary school and up, this class applies landscape and atmospheric technique in a spooky setting, great for the Halloween season. Students will learn how colors work together to make the Jack-o-lantern's facial features glow from the candle we imagine within. A fun twist on landscapes.
Pointillism Fun!
-acrylic paint or markers
What is pointillism? Come find out! Preschool, elementary, and older kids will enjoy making their own "Pointillism' paintings based on Georges Seurat's technique from A Sunday of La Grande Jatte. This is a perfect pairing to Becky's picture book, Escape to Play!
Dino Still Life
-soft pastels
Draw a dino from real life! - Ok, draw from a toy dinosaur, but it is just as fun. Students of all ages will enjoy using soft pastels to create their own dino still life. Shape, lighting, colors, and composition are taught to each age group's level of understanding. Come prepared for some epic, dino fun!
Fireworks & Silhouettes
-soft pastels
Create night sky filled with glowing fireworks in this fun pastel class for all ages. Students will be guided through techniques for blending chalk pastels, layering color, and creating the illusion of sparkling light against a dark sky. Participants will learn how to make bold bursts of color and soft glowing effects while exploring the expressive possibilities of pastels.
