Chalk Pastel Drawing 8×10

Digital Photograph- 6-11-10

This commission was done for a co-worker/friend who wanted this painting to be dedicated to his parents who have both passed on.
Acrylic on canvas, 16×20

This 3′X4′ painting was commissioned by some friends to hang above their mantle. They hope to move to Arizona some day!

These paintings are of my kittens (Troy left, and Willey Right).
Each painting is acrylic on canvas, 12″ X 12″

A co-worker of mine asked me to make a colorful cover for him last week. He does balloon animals as a Jester at children’s birthday parties and uses a small air compressor to inflate the balloons.
The black case looked like a camera bag and wasn’t as festive as it should be when he is working. I found some nice green and orange material and designed a bag casing.
He needed a pocket of some kind to hold the balloons for the kids to pick from so I made one with a snap flap to close it. I made a button hole for the air nozzle opening and quilted the top flap. After 8 hours, I was happy with the way it turned out.

Adding to my baby portraits with pastel pencil, here is Makenzie. Her sister, Camryn was drawn in 2006. I find pastels challenging because of the potential for smearing. It is a delicate process to define and highlight details.

The end result always brings me a feeling of accomplishment because there is a realism quality that I haven’t found in any
other medium. I have provided a close up shot of Makenzie’s hand to show more detail.

To go with my handbag accessories, I decided to make a purse. In order to fit all of my accessories, I needed a larger purse for daily use. I haven’t used a pattern since middle school but as hard as I thought it would be, it wasn’t difficult at all! I used a See & Sew pattern and modified only a couple of details. I felt it necessary to add an additional inside pocket for pens and coin purse (as seen below).
The entire project took me roughly 8 hours to do (which included quilting the main fabric). I was mostly happy with how it turned out although when the pockets are full, the lining material is pulled down, collapsing in on the open purse space. That is not too large of a problem, however if I had designed it, that wouldn’t happen.
It was nice to be able to learn a few new tricks (like how to use a zipper foot) and use new tools (pattern haha) in sewing!

This painting is about similarities in nature and how much I love where I live. The country is all about discoveries.
I discovered the kitten in the picture while I was on a bike ride on November 4th, 2008. At first I thought she and her brother were a skunk. They were only 3 weeks old and I raised them (including bottle feeding).
Willey’s patterns really resemble a cow. In the painting, Willey is looking up to, literally and figuratively, the cow.
